While enjoying the Dodgers World Series, I often heard the expression, "pitchers making up their shoulders in the bullpen."
I think it means they're warming up their shoulders in preparation for a relief appearance.
It's similar to when a singer practices their voice before a performance.
When I think about it, being a singer is a lonely place.
The pressure is immeasurable, as you're responsible for entertaining the listeners with just your own voice.
Of course, there are other performances besides vocals, and there aren't any opponents like in baseball, but when you have a unique, irreplaceable "voice," all you can do is train and believe in yourself.
No matter how considerate those around you are, it can't help you more.
The more considerate those around you are, the greater the burden, the singer
youself, has to carry.
Is there anything lonelier than this?
